About Car Loan EMI Calculator

Work out the monthly EMI on a car loan, the total interest and the total you repay, with a month-by-month or yearly schedule. It opens with an example of ₹8,00,000 at 9.5% for 5 years, an EMI of ₹16,801, which you replace with the amount you will borrow and the rate the bank or dealer quotes. Compare tenures to balance EMI against interest, and see what paying a little extra each month saves. It uses monthly reducing balance and runs in your browser.

Replace the example Loan amount with the on-road price minus your down payment. Then set the Interest rate and Tenure, in Years or Months.

Rules & Limitations

  • The 9.5% rate is only an example, not an offer. Car loan rates depend on the lender, the car, new or used, and your credit score.
  • Rates here are reducing-balance rates. A flat rate quoted by some dealers or lenders costs much more than the same number as a reducing rate.
  • Insurance, registration, processing fees and any foreclosure charges are not included in the EMI.
  • Car loans are often fixed-rate, and lenders may charge a fee for prepaying or closing early. Check your loan agreement before you prepay.

Car Loan EMI Calculator FAQ

What is the EMI on an ₹8 lakh car loan for 5 years?

At 9.5% a year it is ₹16,801 a month. You pay ₹2,08,089 in interest over 5 years, so the total comes to ₹10,08,089.

Should I take a 5-year or a 7-year car loan?

For ₹8 lakh at 9.5%, 7 years lowers the EMI to ₹13,075 but the interest rises to about ₹2.98 lakh, against about ₹2.08 lakh over 5 years. A shorter loan also means you finish paying while the car is worth more.

What loan amount should I enter for a car loan?

Enter only what you borrow: the on-road price (ex-showroom price plus registration, insurance and other charges) minus your down payment. A bigger down payment lowers both the EMI and the total interest.

Can I prepay my car loan early?

Usually yes, but many car loans are fixed-rate and lenders may charge a part-payment or foreclosure fee. On the example loan, ₹5,000 extra a month ends it 16 months sooner and saves ₹59,217 in interest, before any fee.

Why is the dealer's EMI higher than this calculator shows?

The quote may use a flat rate, add insurance or fees to the loan, or include extras. Ask for the reducing-balance rate and the exact loan amount, and enter those here to compare.
