About Compress Image to 200 KB

Bring a large camera or phone photo down to under 200 KB for job portals, email, website uploads and forms with a looser limit. The page opens with "Limit the file size" on, Max KB set to 200 and JPG as the format. 200 KB leaves room for a clear picture: the tool keeps the highest JPG quality that fits and reduces the width and height only when a very large photo needs it. You can pick a sensible size such as 1600 px yourself to keep quality high.

How to Use

1

Add your photo

Drop, choose or paste a JPG, PNG or WebP photo up to 50 MB. The width and height are filled in from the photo.

2

Choose a sensible size

Phone photos are often 4000 px wide or more. Typing a Width such as 1600 or 1920 px (the height follows with "Keep proportions" on) lets the tool use a higher quality within 200 KB.

3

Pick the format

JPG works almost everywhere. WebP also works with the size limit and often looks better at the same size, but many forms accept only JPG.

4

Check and download

The Result shows the size in pixels and KB and the quality used. When it says "Under 200 KB", click Download.

Rules & Limitations

  • At your photo's own size, a 12 megapixel or larger picture usually cannot fit in 200 KB, so the tool makes it smaller and says "Made smaller than … to stay under 200 KB".
  • PNG has no quality setting, so its size is only checked. Screenshots kept as PNG may stay over 200 KB; choose JPG or WebP.
  • Up to 10,000 px per side and 40 megapixels for the result. Very large photos can be slow on older phones.
  • Camera details and GPS location (EXIF) are not copied to the downloaded photo.

Compress Image to 200 KB FAQ

How do I reduce a 5 MB photo to 200 KB?

Add the photo here; Max KB is already 200. The tool lowers the JPG quality and, for a photo that large, also reduces its width and height until it fits. For the best result, type a width such as 1600 px yourself first, then download when the chip says "Under 200 KB".

Will my photo lose quality at 200 KB?

Little that you would notice on a screen at a typical size such as 1600 px wide. The Result shows the JPG quality it used; if the number is low, type a smaller width and the quality goes back up.

Should I save a 200 KB image as JPG or WebP?

Use JPG for forms and portals, because almost all of them accept it. WebP usually gives a cleaner picture at the same size and suits websites and modern browsers. The 200 KB limit works with both formats.

Can I keep the original dimensions and still get under 200 KB?

Only if the photo is small enough to start with. The tool keeps your width and height as long as some quality from 95% down to 40% fits. Larger photos are reduced, and the Result says so.

Can I compress many photos to 200 KB at once?

This page handles one photo at a time. For a batch, use the Image Compressor, which takes up to 50 images and downloads them as a ZIP, though it has no exact KB target.
