About Add Page Numbers to PDF

Number the pages of a PDF in one step. Every page gets numbering like "Page 1 / 10" in small grey text, centred near the bottom edge, and sideways pages are numbered the way you see them. There are no settings: numbering always starts at 1 on the first page, and the position and style are fixed. Several PDFs can be numbered at once, and the rest of each page is left as it was.

How to Use

1

Add your PDFs

Drop one or more PDFs on the page, paste them with Ctrl+V, or click Choose PDFs.

2

Add the numbers

Press Add page numbers. There is nothing to set: each PDF is numbered from its first page to its last.

3

Download

Click Download to save the file named like report-numbered.pdf, or Download all (ZIP) when you numbered several PDFs.

Rules & Limitations

  • The format is fixed: "Page n / total" in 10 pt grey text, centred about 8 mm above the bottom edge. You cannot change the position, font or starting number, or skip the cover page.
  • Numbers are drawn on top of the page, so they can overlap anything already printed at the bottom centre, such as an existing footer.
  • PDFs that need a password or are encrypted cannot be numbered. Up to 100 MB per PDF.

Add Page Numbers to PDF FAQ

How do I add page numbers to a PDF?

Add the PDF and press Add page numbers, then Download. Every page now shows "Page n / total" at the bottom centre.

Where do the page numbers appear?

At the bottom centre of each page, about 8 mm above the edge, in small grey text. On a page that is displayed sideways, the number is placed at the bottom of the page as you see it.

Can I skip the cover page when numbering?

There is no setting for that. You can remove the cover with Delete pages, number the rest, then merge the cover back in front with Merge PDFs. The second page will then read "Page 1".

Can I number several PDFs at once?

Yes. Add all the PDFs before pressing Add page numbers. Each file is numbered separately, starting at 1, and Download all (ZIP) saves them together.

Will the page numbers cover my text?

Only if something is already printed in the bottom centre of the page. The number is small and sits close to the edge, which is usually inside the margin.
