About Edit PDF Metadata

Change the title, author, subject and keywords stored inside a PDF, the details shown under Document properties and often in the viewer's title bar or tab instead of the file name. Fill in only the fields you want to change; blank fields keep their current value. The pages themselves are not touched, and you can apply the same details to several PDFs at once. Hindi and other scripts are supported in these fields.

How to Use

1

Add your PDFs

Drop one or more PDFs on the page, paste them with Ctrl+V, or click Choose PDFs.

2

Fill in the details

Type a new Title, Author, Subject or Keywords (comma-separated). Leave any field blank to keep what the PDF already has; at least one field must be filled.

3

Save and download

Press Save metadata, then click Download to save the file named like report-metadata.pdf, or Download all (ZIP) for several.

Privacy & Processing

  • Mode: hybrid
  • Files Leave Browser: Selected data may be sent to a service or peer
  • Max Input Size: 100 MB per file

  • Data Stored Locally: Nothing is saved. Your files and the edited PDFs are cleared when you leave the page.
  • Network Processing: Required for connected features

Rules & Limitations

  • Blank fields are left unchanged, so a field cannot be cleared here, only replaced.
  • Only title, author, subject and keywords can be set. The producer is changed to the PDF library used here and the modified date is updated.
  • Keywords are stored separated by spaces, so the commas you type are not kept.
  • If the PDF also carries XMP metadata, some apps may keep showing the old values from it. PDFs that need a password or are encrypted cannot be changed. Up to 100 MB per PDF.

Top Suggestions

  • Giving a report or e-book a proper title so it shows in the reader instead of "scan_0012"
  • Putting your name as author on a thesis, portfolio or resume PDF
  • Replacing an old company or software name left in the author field before sending a file
  • Adding keywords to PDFs you publish on a website

Edit PDF Metadata FAQ

How do I change the title of a PDF?

Add the PDF, type the new name in Title and press Save metadata, then Download. Viewers that show the document title will now display it instead of the file name.

How do I change the author name in a PDF?

Type the new name in Author, leave the other fields blank and press Save metadata. Only the author changes; the title, subject and keywords stay as they were.

Can I remove the author or other metadata from a PDF?

Not with this tool. Blank fields are left unchanged, so you can replace a value but not delete it.

Does editing metadata change the PDF's content?

No. Only the document properties are changed; the pages, text and images stay exactly as they were. The file name you download is separate from the title.

Is the file name the same as the PDF title?

No. The file name is what your phone or computer shows in folders. The title is stored inside the PDF and shown by many viewers and search engines, and it is what this tool changes.
