About PDF to Word

Copy the text of a PDF into an editable Word (.docx) file. Only the text comes across: each page becomes a "Page n" heading followed by that page's text as one paragraph, and layout, columns, tables, images, fonts and line breaks are not kept. It suits getting the words of a PDF to edit or reuse, not making a copy that looks like the original. Scanned PDFs have no text to copy, so use OCR scan for those.

How to Use

1

Add your PDF

Drop one or more PDFs on the page, paste them with Ctrl+V, or click Choose PDFs. Each PDF becomes its own Word file.

2

Convert to Word

Press Convert to Word. The text of each page is read and written into a .docx file.

3

Download and edit

Click Download to save report.docx, or Download all (ZIP) for several. If the result says no selectable text was found, the PDF is a scan: use OCR scan instead.

Rules & Limitations

  • Text only. Layout, tables, images, fonts, colours and the line breaks within a page are not kept; each page's text becomes one paragraph.
  • Scanned or photographed PDFs have no text layer, so the Word file would hold only page headings. OCR scan reads such pages and saves the text as .txt.
  • Hindi PDFs made with older non-Unicode fonts, such as Kruti Dev, may come out as jumbled letters. OCR scan with Hindi selected reads what is printed instead.
  • Up to 100 MB per PDF. A PDF that needs a password to open cannot be converted.

PDF to Word FAQ

How do I convert a PDF to an editable Word document?

Add the PDF, press Convert to Word and click Download. Open the .docx in Word, Google Docs or any other word processor to edit the text.

Will the Word file look the same as my PDF?

No. Only the text is copied: each page becomes a heading and one paragraph of text. Layout, tables, images, fonts and line breaks are not kept, so expect to reformat the document.

Why is my converted Word file empty?

The PDF is probably a scan or a photo, which has pictures of text rather than text you can select, so the file only has page headings. Run the PDF through OCR scan, which reads the printed words.

Can I convert a Hindi PDF to Word?

If the PDF uses Unicode Hindi text, yes, the text is copied. PDFs made with older fonts such as Kruti Dev may come out jumbled, and scans have no text; for both, OCR scan with Hindi selected gives a .txt you can paste into Word.

Do I need Microsoft Word to convert PDF to Word?

No. The conversion runs in your browser with no software to install. To open and edit the .docx afterwards you can use Word, Google Docs, WPS Office or LibreOffice.

Is my PDF uploaded when I convert it to Word?

No. The text is read and the Word file is made inside your browser, so the PDF never leaves your device.
